Savills promotes management staff to national roles

Savills has promoted Christchurch Managing Director Ryan Geddes and Christchurch General Manager William Wallace to national roles.

Savills has promoted Christchurch Managing Director Ryan Geddes and Christchurch General Manager William Wallace to national roles, which will spearhead growth and expansion of the global real estate company throughout New Zealand.

Ryan Geddes has taken on the role of Managing Director – New Zealand, leading the strategic direction of the business nationally including potential new business lines and geographic expansion opportunities. He will remain based in Christchurch.

Ryan will be supported by Steven Dunlop, Savills National Head – Valuation & Advisory. Steven will continue to lead this core business line nationally, from Savills Auckland office.

To further promote the integration of Savills existing offices in Auckland and Christchurch, William Wallace, previously Christchurch General Manager, is moving to Auckland to take on the role of General Manager – New Zealand. William will be tasked with overseeing the existing agency businesses nationwide, with a particular focus on growing revenues from these businesses.

The newly formed national team will work closely with Paddy Callesen, who has previously led the Auckland office for six years.

Paul Craig, CEO of Savills Australia & New Zealand, says Savills is a well-established name in commercial and residential real estate globally, with over 600 offices across the UK, Asia and Australia.

The New Zealand promotions will facilitate growing Savills market share of the commercial property market around the country, with the aim of achieving a high-profile position in New Zealand that is in line with the presence the company already has in other regions globally, Mr Craig says.

“We’re looking forward to leveraging the strengths of our existing Christchurch and Auckland offices to expand further in New Zealand, through growing core business lines including valuation, brokerage and project management; along with looking at opening new offices in other locations.”

The national business will have a single reporting structure across all offices, with teams working closely together, he says.

Ryan Geddes has worked in commercial real estate since the early 2000s. He joined Savills in early 2015 following four years as a leasing broker at Colliers International. During his time at Savills, he has negotiated several large-scale retail & commercial property sales and leases. He has also had a strong influence on Christchurch’s regenerating central business district since the Canterbury earthquakes. In addition to negotiating many of the flagship retail leases in the new central city retail precinct, he was a driving force in bringing some of the country’s biggest retail, corporate office and government occupiers back to the CBD.

William Wallace joined Savills in 2016 following seven years at Amdec South Africa, the country’s largest privately-owned property developer. Amdec has developed and now owns some of the largest and most successful mixed-use developments in South Africa, including the award-winning 450,000m2 Melrose Arch precinct in Johannesburg. He was appointed as General Manager of Savills Christchurch office in early 2018.
